Beauty Tips for Thick Framed Eyeglasses

A pair of thick framed eyeglasses can easily transform your look in many different ways.  With glasses, you can easily look adorably nerdy or intelligently sexy.  Here, I'd like to share some beauty tips that have worked for me when I wear my glasses.

  • Sometimes glasses leave those annoying red marks on the sides of my nose and the plastic takes some of my foundation off.  To avoid this, I apply some powder on my nose.
  • Whether or not my dark circles are obvious, I always apply concealer and a little bit of highlighter under my eyes. This helps to brighten those areas up. My thick frames often cast a shadow underneath my eyes.
  • I don't apply mascara on my top lashes, mainly because it would make my lashes crush into my lenses.  I do apply a little bit to my bottom lashes because they're too short to reach my lenses AND doing so subtly creates a doll-eyed look.
  • Because my glasses make my eyes look smaller and less defined, I usually use a black pencil or gel liner on my top lash line and the corner of my bottom lash line.  I like to extend the lines a little past my outer corners to make my eyes look wider.  Then I use a light beige pencil liner to illuminate the inner corners of my eyes.
  • Thick framed glasses already add some drama to the face.  Thus, I rarely apply blush when I wear my glasses.  Wearing blush beneath my glasses makes my face appear too theatrical.
  •  Lastly, thick framed glasses can sometimes minimize the appearance of eyebrows.  I always try to run a brown brow pencil and gel on my eyebrow hairs to make them more defined.
Having some trouble choosing a pair?
  • Choose the color of the frames wisely.  I personally like wearing dark framed glasses (either black or dark brown) because they could easily match with any outfit I choose to wear.  Choosing a fun colors like red or purple could work, but think about whether or not the color matches with most of your clothes.
  • If you have an angular-shaped face, try out some rounded glasses to make your face appear more balanced.  If you have a round-shaped face, try out square or rectangular frames for that same reason.
  • If your face is small like mine, avoid oversized black frames.  A pair of glasses is meant to compliment your face, not hide it.
  • When you try on the frames, pay close attention to how it sits on your nose bridge and your head.  Does it feel too tight? Or does it seem to fall off your nose bridge? Glasses are an investment and they should feel comfortable on your face every time you use them.
  • If you have really thick lenses (aka: you have very bad eyesight),  avoid half frames.  They are not very stable in holding heavy lenses and your lenses might fall out easily.
  • Brand recommendations: Vogue,  Paul Frank, Ray Ban (which is what I'm currently wearing), and Prada (for those who want to splurge ^^)
I hope you all have an awesome week!

Blast from MY Past: Headbands

Headbands were my thing all throughout elementary school.  My aunts gave me so many headbands for Christmas and my birthdays--so many that I pretty much wore a different one everyday. Of course, wanting to grow up, I shied away from these hair accessories when I entered high school.

My current job sometimes requires labor work so it gets annoying when my hair gets in my face. So my solution? Headbands!

I'm slowly gathering more and more headbands and making a new collection of them--this time with cuter yet more grown up designs (as opposed to the cheesy plasticy ones I wore religiously in gradeschool).  I'm loving it again. It made me wonder why I decided to give headbands up for several years!

So how about you? Is there anything (accessories? any fashion tips?) from YOUR childhood that you rediscovered recently? Please share in the comments below! =)

Have a great Saturday (or Sunday)!
